Here is a list of definitions that were drawn up for the purposes of this program:
Demonstration
The scale-up of a technological innovation that is large enough (dimension, volume, flow, etc.) to be tested in real situations.
Technological innovation
A new product or process, or a relatively improved product or process whose (economic, social, environmental or financial) value is increased.
A new technological product or process is a product or service whose characteristics or expected uses show significant differences with those produced beforehand. An improved technological product or process is a product or service whose performance has been significantly increased or improved. These innovations may bring into play radically new technologies, be based on the association of existing technologies used in new applications or derived from the use of new knowledge1.
For the purposes of this program, the targeted product or process must not be on the market or must have weak market presence.
Trial implementation
Use of an existing product or process in a real application for a sufficiently long period of time that is representative of the different operating conditions (seasonal, flow, capacity, input or other variations) in order to objectively establish the performance of the technology.
Technology
Set of tools and materials used in the industry or set of practices in a given technical field, based on scientific principles.
