Apartment buildings & condominiums

The Novoclimat® program for apartment buildings and condominiums applies to dwellings of seven storeys or less whose main source of energy is electricity or natural gas. Eligible buildings are new constructions or buildings undergoing major renovations.

Clientele and eligibility

Buildings eligible for financial assistance are privately owned (condos, apartments) or low-income housing (2-3 bedrooms, 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom/no facilities). Low-income housing projects eligible for financial assistance must be new constructions managed by the SHQ (Société d’habitation du Québec) as part of either the AccèsLogis program or the Logement Abordable Québec – volet social et communautaire program. Redesign or repurposing projects may be eligible only if they satisfy all Novoclimat® requirements.

Benefits for your tenants

  • housing that is more energy efficient means that tenants save on their heating bills
  • the dwelling units are more comfortable and keep bothersome drafts to a minimum because the walls are more airtight.
  • better quality of indoor air thanks to a heat recovery ventilation system that brings regular inputs of fresh air into the main rooms
  • better control of indoor temperature due to electronic thermostats, but especially to the use of superior insulation and the installation of energy efficient windows that help keep warm air inside in winter and cool air inside in summer

Benefits for you

  • technical support for blueprints and estimates
  • on-site support
  • inspections and blower door tests to detect sources of potential energy loss so that corrective measures can be taken before construction is completed
  • certification that attests that the energy efficiency building meets Novoclimat® standards
