Case studies

As part of its program to promote energy efficiency, the Department has provided financial and professional support to demonstration projects, particularly in the commercial sector. Carried out in conjunction with partner organizations to demonstrate the features and benefits of new technologies, new approaches or new applications, these projects have promising energy efficiency potential that can easily be reproduced.

The following projects were carried out by numerous Québec firms :

The Baie Comeau Alcoa Smelter mandated a firm of engineering consultants to identify, from a technical standpoint and also in accordance with value management principles, concrete measures that could improve energy efficiency in the smelter.

This software, developed jointly by the manufacturer of snowmaking systems Turbocristal and the energy efficiency firm Éconoler, was tested under real-life conditions at the Massif de la Petite-Rivière-Saint-François in Québec’s Charlevoix region during the winter of 2003-2004.

Modernizing heating & air conditioning systems in the Stanley Apartments building

The owner of the Stanley Apartments building in Montreal, in conjunction with Gaz Métro and the Projeco Group, modernized the heating and air conditioning systems in the apartment building to make them more energy efficient. After 35 years of use, age and breakdown were affecting the functioning and the energy performance of equipment that had become outmoded and no longer adapted to modern needs.
